The WISER MENA programme seeks to improve the generation and use of weather and climate information in the Middle East and North Africa to help people stay safe and thrive. One of its core aims is to build resilience to weather events among vulnerable communities. This includes exploring how anticipatory action, based on forecast information, can help to protect communities, and seeking to strengthen this approach in the region. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has extended WISER MENA to March 2029 so that it can broaden and deepen its work in this space. The current grant that supports WISER MENA will close in September 2025 and, to inform its follow-on projects, the team want to hear what people working in #AnticipatoryAction in the region think the priorities should be for the next phase. If you have ideas for how it can continue to support #AnticipatoryAction in the #MENA region, please complete the form below - the deadline has now been extended to 12 January 2025. https://lnkd.in/e3fUmG_T WISER MENA is funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and run by the UK's Met Office.

The Regional Mapping of Anticipatory Action in Asia and the Pacific is an annual exercise of the Asia-Pacific Technical Working Group on Anticipatory Action, which aims for a better understanding of the progression of this approach in the region and to inform priority areas for the sustainable growth of #AnticipatoryAction. Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/e8UbMgYh After conducting the first regional mapping in 2023, a second iteration of the exercise was conducted between May and July 2024 in 15 countries: #Afghanistan, #Bangladesh, #Cambodia, #Fiji, #Indonesia, #Lao People’s Democratic Republic, #Mongolia, #Myanmar, #Nepal, #Pakistan, #PapuaNewGuinea, #Philippines, #SriLanka, #TimorLeste and #Vietnam. This report presents the findings from the 2024 mapping exercise. It highlights regional trends in coverage, triggers, actions, finance, evidence and learning, and policy and institutionalization with a comparative analysis of 2023 and 2024 results. As the 2023 mapping results had limitations in capturing what the governments are already doing in terms of anticipatory action, and their views and challenges in advancing the approach, this year’s mapping extended its scope to cover the government actors through key informant interviews. With FAO, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, American Red Cross and EU in Emergencies.
