Water-related disasters are escalating. To mitigate them, the Water at the Heart of Climate Action (WHCA) programme was established. The programme promotes the use of Early Warning Systems along the Nile basin, supporting communities to adapt to changing climates and increase water resilience. Led by Rode Kruis Nederland, WHCA brings together governments, (international) organizations, and local actors to: 💧 Save lives: Provide timely information to prepare for hazards. 💧 Promote collaboration: Work together for a comprehensive approach. 💧 Champion local solutions: Empower communities to lead their own response. 🚀 By investing in Early Warnings for All, powered by locally led action, we can move from reactive relief to proactive prevention. Nearly a year ago, the Grand Bargain Caucus on Scaling up #AnticipatoryAction was launched under the leadership of Ambassador Michael Koehler. This initiative represented a collaborative effort among 18 Signatories, co-championed by Germany, United Nations OCHA, Save the Children International, and World Food Programme, with expert support from the Anticipation Hub. 🔍 In the #GrandBargain, a Caucus is a strategic tool that elevates discussions and decision-making to a political and strategic level. These "coalitions of the willing" focus on monitoring, driving, and encouraging progress on specific commitments. After months of discussions and negotiations, all the Caucus members endorsed the Anticipatory Action outcome document on 19 December, laying down substantial commitments to increase funding, improve coordination at international, national and local levels, and track funding dedicated to anticipatory action. 🔄 As we move forward, the focus will shift towards implementing these commitments and monitoring progress to effectively scale anticipatory action, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in crises situations.
